In a world of healing and opposites, The Terrain Theory opposes The Germ Theory.
Are these opposing theories working for us? Are people healing on all levels, physical, mental, emotional, spiritual? Or are opposites set up to cause friction, division, and separation?
In a world of duality, people are coerced into making a choice between two extremes.
Contrary to popular opinion, there is a third option; the way of the Spirit.
In a world of opposing forces, one force rises to truth, thus proving the opposite to be counterfeit. However, that all depends upon the state of human consciousness in evolution.
Based on human evolution, opposing forces wobble (such as between hypo and hyper physical disease conditions). On November 1917 (GA 178), Rudolf Steiner said:
Medicine will become a spiritual science. Just as medicine was known as a spiritual science in ancient times, so it will again come to be known as a spiritual science.
This makes opposites both valid choices, where YOUR choice is based on your state of consciousness.
Let’s break these theories down:
The Germ Theory states that:
specific microscopic organisms are the cause of specific diseases. The theory was developed, proved, and popularized in Europe and North America between about 1850 and 1920. Because its implications were so different from the centuries–old humoral theory, germ theory not only revolutionized the theory and practice of medicine, but also the understanding of disease itself. [Medical healing requires a doctor].
The Terrain Theory states that:
diseases are results of our internal environment and its ability to maintain homeostasis against outside threats. Terrain theory believes if an individual maintains a healthy terrain, it can handle outside invaders or threats (microbes), which cause diseases. When terrain is weak, it favors the microbes. [Self-healing does not require a doctor].
Two Theories of Disease
Both theories are offered as a reason for disease. Here is the breakdown:
GERM THEORY (by LOUIS PASTEUR)
The body is sterile.
Disease arises from micro-organisms outside the body.
Micro-organisms are generally to be guarded against.
The function of micro-organisms is constant.
The shapes and colors of micro-organisms are constant.
Every disease is associated with a particular micro-organism.
Micro-organisms are primary causal agents.
Disease can “strike” any body.
Koch’s Postulates are used to prove both that specific germs cause specific diseases and that disease germs transmit disease from one body to another, which is fundamental to the germ theory. [Recent changes suggest Koch’s postulates no longer apply].
TERRAIN THEORY or MICROZYMIAN THEORY or CELLULAR THEORY (By CLAUD BERNARD & ANTOINE BÉCHAMP)
Microbes exist naturally in the body.
Disease arises from imbalance of microorganisms within the cells of the body.
These intracellular microbes normally function to build and assist in the metabolic processes of the body.
The function of these organisms changes to assist in the catabolic (disintegration) processes of the host organism when that organism dies or is injured, which may be chemical as well as mechanical.
Microbes are pleomorphic (having many forms): they change their shapes and colors (shape-shift) to reflect the condition of the host.
Every disease is associated with a particular condition.
Disease results when microbes change form, function, and toxicity according to the terrain of the host. Hence, the condition of the host organism is the primary causal agent.
Disease is built by unhealthy conditions.
To prevent disease we have to create health.
Disease reversal proves that changing the internal terrain heals the body.
Today, when people believe they have both feet firmly planted in reality, the point is to realize that reality cannot be grasped through abstract concepts. —Rudolf Steiner, December 7, 1921 (GA 209)
Whether you consider yourself left-brained or right-brained, open-minded or fixed, in a world of duality, you are made to choose among opposites:
If you choose Germ Theory, you believe in an invisible germ as the causative agent of disease. The germ, as an external agent has power over you and you health, so you choose medical treatments using synthetic chemicals from licensed medical doctors, approved by government officials. In the process, these solutions suppress your symptoms, as you work against the body’s innate immune system.
If you choose Terrain Theory, you work with the concept of ‘As Within So Without,’ the universal law of correspondence. Your medicine is Nature’s medicine in the form of herbs, plants, clays, homeopathic remedies, Earthing, meditation, exercise, acupuncture, clean water, clean air, and restful sleep. You believe that in the process of coming into balance, disease reverses. These natural solutions serve to support your body’s innate immune system, your natural defense system.
Natural Law and Spiritual Law
We will set aside man-made laws for the moment.
However, a distinction must be made between natural laws and spiritual laws, which make up two separate realms that are interconnected.
Specifically, in the physical realm, there are energies and energetic patterns that operate under physical laws, whereas in the spiritual realm, spiritual beings operate under spiritual laws.
Because these realms are interconnected, we must know who we are in both realms, since behind the energy of electricity or magnetism, there are spiritual entities (elemental beings) that ride the energetic waves.
The fate of humanity is intimately connected with those spiritual beings and their deeds that stand behind the outer nature kingdoms as the elemental kingdoms, which we must also recognize if we want to recognize how the world is run. —Rudolf Steiner, May 23, 1922
What is Natural Law?
In our reality, Natural Law is a system of natural justice, a level of understanding held as common among all human beings, derived from Nature.
Natural Law aligns with the human condition, which is born of the spirit.
Natural Law is the embodiment of Universal Spiritual Laws, which govern Consciousness. [Waking consciousness is dependent on the physical body as an instrument of thinking, feeling, and willing.]
For instance the difference between the geocentric (Ptolemy) and heliocentric (Copernicus) world conceptions is based on the state of human consciousness.
Under a past spiritual ptolemaic consciousness, Earth stood at the center of the world so people could observe their connection with the spiritual worlds. Under a materialist heliocentric consciousness, Earth is only one of many bodies in space.
In the future, the Ptolemaic world view is destined to replace the Copernican view, as consciousness changes again. Similarly, a holistic view, where humanity sees itself connected to all life, will replace the medical reductionist view.
As long as one stands on the ground of external reality, one faces the world and forms a worldview. But as soon as one enters the spiritual world, one must essentially view what is to be observed from various perspectives—though here the perspective is meant in a spiritual sense. —Rudolf Steiner, October 2, 1915 (GA 164)
Natural Law describes the Universal Laws on which both Spiritual and Natural Order are based. It expresses the mathematics and sacred geometry of all life, connected to everything in Nature under the Sun.
If we investigate properly, we penetrate through natural laws to the spiritual element underlying the world.
Rudolf Steiner said:
Spiritual science seeks not to create any kind of opposition to natural science, but to be its soul and spirit. June 1, 1922 (GA83)
If a man-made law is in harmony with Natural Law, it logically follows that it is redundant, since it states a truth that is inherent, pre-existing, and self-evident. Such human-made laws are both irrelevant and unnecessary.
If a particular human-made law is in opposition to Natural Law, it follows logically that it is both false (incorrect) and immoral (harmful), or in other words, wrong. Such a law can neither be legitimate, nor binding upon anyone.
Man-made Law
If Terrain Theory reflects the Natural world, seeking to balance ecosystems, internally and externally, then Germ Theory reflects a Material world moving outside or below Nature, to ‘Subnature:’
-
to lead people to a purely materialistic existence.
-
to sublimate self-responsibility to authority.
-
to swap self-healing for medicalization.
-
to replace human identity (the ‘I’ with a Transhuman digital Cyborg.
-
to patent Nature for control over Nature:
-
Recombinant patented vaccines containing Monkeypox, Smallpox and Horsepox are central to reverse genetics used today.
-
A study by the American Chemical Society identified over 2,000 patents relating to SARS and MERS treatments, alone. These patents are held by a range of companies and institutions across North America, Asia and Europe.
-
Patents for Coronavirus go back to 2015, well before the “Coronavirus” agent was named publicly, and before billions in profit could be realized by vaccine makers.
Note: Pasteur recanted his Germ Theory on his deathbed stating something along the lines of, “Bernard was correct. I was wrong. The microbe (germ) is nothing. The terrain (milieu) is everything.”

Finding Balance
Theories and assumptions miss the spiritual quality that make humans human. As we plunge into ‘technological innovations’ and genetic manipulation, our task, if we are up to it, is to find balance.
For that we must elevate the spiritual:
-
Because illness is a physical projection of what is experienced spiritually.
-
Because human beings are both physical and spiritual beings.
-
Because we are connected to spiritual beings in the spiritual worlds just as much as we are connected with the natural realms.
The balance we seek from dueling theories comes from seeing through the material world, so that we are not sucked down below nature, to sub-nature.
In 1917, Rudolf Steiner cautioned:
The time will come – and it may not be far off – … The soul will be made non-existent with the aid of a drug. Taking a ‘sound point of view,’ people will invent a vaccine to influence the organism as early as possible, preferably as soon as it is born, so that this human body never even gets the idea that there is a soul and spirit.
The heirs of modern materialism will look for the vaccine to make the body ‘healthy,’ that is, make its constitution such that this body no longer talks of such rubbish as soul and spirit, but takes a ‘sound’ view of the forces which live in engines and in chemistry and let planets and suns arise from nebulae in the cosmos. – Rudolf Steiner, October 7, 1917. The Fall of the Spirits of Darkness, A Future Vaccine to Prevent Knowledge of Soul and Spirit, Rudolf Steiner Press, Bristol, 1993, GA 177, p. 85
The spirits of darkness are now among us…. I have told you that the spirits of darkness are going to inspire their human hosts, in whom they will be dwelling, to find a vaccine that will drive all inclination toward spirituality out of people’s souls when they are still very young, and this will happen in a roundabout way through the living body. —Rudolf Steiner, GA177, October 27, 1917
The Choice
It’s time to choose between Door #1 and Door #2? Cyborg or Human?
In truth, we need the challenges we face, of disease and technology, to discover what humanity is really made of, and to move ourselves in the direction of self-healing and the Spirit.
Ultimately, we are each responsible for our own healing.
In the Earth suit, we can each choose to believe what we want; to be good or bad, to be sick or healthy, to experience freedom or slavery, to live as a Cyborg or a Human. We can choose to believe the Germ theory or the Terrain theory because we have free will.
We can agree to disagree.
But in ignoring our spiritual nature we must also be content to lose our humanity.
