There is a new microorganism in town…. a chemically synthesized DNA sequence! Her name?

Synthia

the time from the first official synthetic genomic sequence assembled in 1995, to a newly created genome inserted into a bacterium, makes a short 15 years.

The company, J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI). is working with pharmaceutical company Novartis, based in Basel, Switzerland, on ways of making flu vaccine production more efficient.

The future will be designing and making whole new species.—J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI)

Digitizing Biology

Since 2010, thousands of organisms have been sequenced and deposited in digital databases— “digitizing biology.”

With any new technology there are bound to be glitches. As the synthetic genome became established the host genome disappeared. After continuous replication, it was not long before nothing of the former genome remained.

But once this synthetic genome was inserted—the would-be host cell failed “and we did not know why.” —Daniel Gibson

Recall Dolly the Sheep, who was cloned in 1996, then euthanized after 6 years from a progressive lung disease and premature aging. She demonstrated that cells could be reprogrammed to create a whole new organism.

What does that look like for the human organism?

The Conceptual Species

A 2020 study maintained that a virus (SARS-CoV-2) based solely on one species-defining property –a nucleotide sequence –as a viral genome, not as a virus. Does “the virus” even exist? That has been discussed previously and is the subject for another time.

ICTV’s responsibility for naming viruses was shifted to naming and establishing species.

SARS-CoV was reconstructed by IQ-Tree v 1.6.1, using 83 sequences with the best fitting evolutionary model.

A Digital Age means gender is ‘out’ and the global digital citizen is ‘in,’ designated as property, with digital rights, digital responsibilities, a digital twin, and a digital ID.

Soon “gender politics” will be old news. A Digital Age means gender is out and digital species, or digital global citizen is in.

After all, the future is digital law, digital health, digital security, and digital government.

The PDT

The personal digital twin (PDT) is coming soon. In the book, The Digital Twin, the authors write:

Everyone may have his or her own Personal Digital Twin (PDT) in the cyber world. Such a PDT may include the person’s external appearance, as well as internal organs and tissues. The PDT may be used to predict human health, behavior, and emotion in advance of developments warranting concerns or requiring attention, and even simulate people’s thoughts to realize spiritual immortality in some extreme sense.

The Tree and the Ax

Materialist ideology continues to plow ahead in the creation of a human avatar, called the Cyborg. Unfortunately, they do not contemplate how cyborgs will eventually replace them.

Recall the Turkish proverb about the tree and the ax

The forest was shrinking, but the trees, believing the axe is one of them, kept voting for the axe, until it led to their demise.

This proverb warns of the consequences of trusting those who can harm us, as much as how we overlook our contributions to our own destruction. But humans couldn’t be hacked, could they?
